System Updates and Monitoring

As predicted, Winter Storm Enzo hit our area last night, bringing bitter cold temperatures and blanketing much of it with snow and freezing precipitation. While a few isolated outages occurred, our system overall remained steady. Our crews, contractors, and more than 1,200 mutual aid workers have been addressing outages as safely and quickly as possible. They remain prepared to respond to any additional impacts on the system.

Centerpoint winter weather tips

Proactive Preparations

In preparation for Winter Storm Enzo, CenterPoint Energy implemented several proactive measures to ensure reliable energy delivery:

  • Inspected and tested critical equipment.
  • Hardened systems to prevent ice buildup.
  • Maintained freeze protection equipment.
  • Conducted emergency training for operational personnel and contractors.

As temperatures steadily decrease, we will continue to monitor our systems closely to deliver the energy you depend on, even in harsh winter conditions.

Safety Remains Our Top Priority

Safety is always our highest priority. Here are some essential tips to help you stay safe during severe winter weather:

  • Space Heater Safety: Keep all items at least three feet away from space heaters, and never use an oven or stovetop to heat your home.
  • Natural Gas Awareness: Be alert for the smell of natural gas, which resembles the scent of rotten eggs. If you smell gas:
    • Leave the area immediately.
    • Contact us at 800-227-1376 and call 911.
  • Gas Meter Care: Keep your gas meter clear using a broom, not a shovel. Avoid melting or chipping ice, as this can damage the meter. Allow the ice to melt naturally.
  • Travel Advisory: Adhere to recommendations from City and County officials to stay off roads unless necessary due to hazardous road conditions.
